Our family grew up listening to FELA as a youth. Our father Tschaka Tonge worked at WABC-TV in NYC at night. When he would come home in the wee hours of the morning, he would play Fela in the basement. My little sister and I would hear daddy walking up the stairs. He would wake us up with dry & wet drool on our faces and make us go downstairs to the basement w/ him as he watched us dance to Fela's music. That was such a memorable experience. Daddy even took my brothers on a long road trip when they visited Ghana to Nigeria in the 70's just to meet Fela where they waited for hours at the Shrine to interview him.
